New Year, New You

It’s so hard to believe that another year has already come and gone, time sure does fly!  As I look back on 2017, I think of all the memories and good times I had, and even the times that weren’t so good.  I look back on the things that I can do better and can change.

That’s one of my favorite things about this particular holiday.  A new year means a new you.  Each New Years holiday, I think of everything that happened over the past year and what I can do differently in the next.  To dream big, to set goals for yourself, and to stay motivated to achieve those goals.

As I start to look ahead into the new year, I know exactly what resolutions I’d like to achieve in 2018, two important things in life for a girl my age.

1) Finance

I am a total shopper and absolutely love shopping for the latest fashion trends and beauty looks, but of course I can’t live like that forever! I’ve decided to become more financially smart in 2018 and improve on my current spending habits.  Finance is important, and me still being a college student prevents me from being able to afford a lot of things.  My goal is to work harder in 2018 and be smarter about my finances.

2) Fitness

Hitting the gym and improving my health.  Like most, it is a goal of mine to improve my current fitness habits in the new year.  As I look back on 2017, I spent the first half of the year following through with my fitness resolution from last new years.  I attended yoga classes regularly and was on a regular schedule at the gym at my school.  But once I came home from school for the summer, I never fully continued with my fitness routines.  Which is why I am setting it as another resolution of mine this year.  Fitness and health is important, especially as I am adulting, and I would really like to put myself back on a regular workout schedule.  I’d even like to try some new fitness routines such as attending barre classes, attend a cycle class such as SoulCycle, or even get back into attending yoga classes again.  I guess one thing that has prevented me from doing that is once again the financial aspect of such classes.  Gym memberships are expensive! But with putting your money in the right place, fitness is always worth it.

What are some of your resolutions for 2018? Comment below!

And of course, Happy New Year!

First Date Outfit Ideas

Congrats! You got the date with that cute guy you’ve been secretly admiring for weeks! He’s gorgeous, he’s funny, he’s everything you could ever hope for in a guy, now it’s time to show him what you’ve got.

Choosing the perfect outfit for a first date is always one of the hardest things.  You want to look your best without totally overdressing.  But seriously anything could be better than what I wore on my first date with my boyfriend, long story short I was stuck wearing gym clothes! Talk about embarrassing.  Fortunately enough it was the best date I’ve ever been on and my outfit didn’t completely ruin everything!

But I think I got lucky there, I’ve been on dates where something like that would definitely not fly.  And of course I wish I could go back in time and wear something else totally mind-blowing.

But here’s to moving on and hoping you don’t make the same mistake that I made!

Whether you’re going out and walking around the city, going to a bar, going out to dinner, seeing a movie, going to a show, or anything else, these looks are perfect for the first date, and something that I wish I could’ve worn on my first date!

A Great View at Lake 22

One of the best things about living in Washington is the endless amount of hiking opportunities.  They’re everywhere.  I think my new favorite hikes are the ones that end at a lake.  They’re always so nice to look at after hiking such a long way, it just blows your mind.

I recently hiked Lake 22 in Granite Falls area, surrounded by the Mount Baker National Forest.  This was one of the most breath-taking hikes I’ve done, and I think the reason it was like that was because I did this hike in the winter time with snow surrounding the whole lake and mountains.

The majority of the hike did not show any snow at all, however, once nearing the top by the lake, snow and ice were everywhere.  And the lake was completely frozen over.  The mountains surrounding the lake were huge and covered in snow and it was so cool to look at, seriously a postcard photo-op.

For anyone wanting to hike Lake 22, the best time to go is during the winter when it’s a snow hike!  So much fun.

Walkin’ In a Winter Wonderland

‘Tis the season and Merry Christmas! These streets are filled with Christmas and cheer in the town of Leavenworth, WA.  I just recently visited Leavenworth on my day off of work and wandered around the town, the perfect way to get in the Christmas spirit.  With snow surrounding the town and covering the mountains, holiday lights everywhere you turn, and Christmas music playing in every store, it was the perfect North Pole setting.  It felt like walking in a true winter wonderland.  Feeling so sad now that Christmas is coming to an end, but so ready to tackle on the new year! Hello 2018!

The 10 Best Christmas Movies to Watch This Holiday Season

Happy December and Merry Christmas! December is one of my favorite months out of the year because of my love of Christmas time and the holiday season.  Each December, I love to relax in between holiday shopping with cozy winter days spent at home in cozy pajamas, drinking hot chocolates, baking holiday cookies, and watching Christmas movies!  This year I wanted to share ten of my favorite Christmas movies with you all that I am always sure to watch every single year.  I hope these movies become part of your Christmas traditions as well!

1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

My number one favorite!  The Chicago-based Christmas comedy is about a man wanting to have the perfect family Christmas, with perfect holiday decorations, the perfect Christmas tree, and the perfect family Christmas Eve celebration.  But trying too much to make everything perfect, everything begins to fall apart.

2. Elf

My second Christmas favorite! This movie begins with a baby living in an orphanage who crawls into Santa’s bag on Christmas Eve and is transported to the North Pole.  He becomes raised by elves living in the North Pole and eventually travels to New York City in search of his real father and bringing the spirit of Christmas to those in New York City.

3. Christmas With the Kranks

So many laughs in this one.  I just watched this movie last night and could not stop laughing.  In this Chicago-based movie, a couple finally alone for the holidays after their daughter moves out, plan to skip Christmas and all traditions and rituals associated with the holiday.  But with their Christmas-obsessed neighbors and residents of Chicago, the couple cannot catch a break from being ridiculed for their skipping Christmas and lack of Christmas spirit.

4. Home Alone

When 8-year-old Kevin acts out in front of his family and relatives the night before a family trip to Paris, he is sent up to sleep in the attic, wishing he didn’t have a family and could live alone.  When he awakens to an empty house the next morning after his whole family forgot about him in the attic and left to the airport in such a rush, Kevin begins to believe that his wish for no family came true.  He has the time of his life until two bad guys plan to rob his house, in which Kevin becomes the man of the house and does everything to protect his home.

5. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

In this Home Alone sequel, Kevin is put in a similar situation as in the first movie, except this time he is lost in one of the biggest cities in the world, New York City.  Instead of being forgotten in the attic, Kevin loses track of his father at the airport when they all try to take a family trip to Florida.  Thinking he sees his father, Kevin follows the man onto a plane that turns out to be flying to New York City, while the rest of his family is on their way to Florida for Christmas.  Now alone in the Big Apple, Kevin has the Christmas vacation he always wanted on his own and exploring the big city.  But when the same bad guys end up being in New York as well, Kevin does everything he can to stop them from robbing a toy store before Christmas.

6. Dear Santa

This is SUCH a cute movie with such a good story to it, perfect for the holiday season.  I just found this movie about two years ago on Netflix and immediately added it to my list of Christmas movies I watch every year.  It’s about a rich woman living in the city who finds a “Dear Santa” letter blowing in the wind.  The letter is from a little girl who is asking Santa to bring a new wife to her widower father.  I love this movie so much and always love to find some new Christmas movies to add to my December movie list, if you guys haven’t checked this one out yet, I definitely recommend it!

7. The Mistle-tones

This ABC Family (Freeform) Christmas original is another good, fairly new Christmas movie that I just found a couple years ago.  Normally, I am not one who enjoys musicals or musical movies, but I actually enjoyed this one a lot!  It’s about a talented singer, Holly, who auditions for a spot in a legendary local Christmas musical group founded by her mother years previous.  When Holly is not given the slot in the group, she sets out to create her own musical group, The Mistle-tones, and begins to challenge the legendary group.  With a lot of Christmas and a little bit of romance, this is one of my newly favorite Christmas movies.  And I definitely recommend for those who enjoy musicals or even for those who don’t!

8. Four Christmases

Definitely an accurate representation of what some Christmases can be like, visiting all the in-laws and family in one day.  This movie is about an unmarried couple who spend their Christmas day trudging around to multiple family get-togethers after their vacation plans fall apart due to weather conditions.  With Christmas and comedy, this movie is a must-watch!

9. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

A classic that I never get tired of.  I watched this movie every single year as a kid and of course still do today! The story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer saving Christmas never gets old!

10. A Charlie Brown Christmas

Another Christmas classic! I always enjoy watching the different Charlie Brown holiday movies, during Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course Christmas, it’s always such a cute story and I love the characters!

I hope you all enjoyed the list and hope you watch some of these movies this Christmas season.  Feel free to leave a comment below for any other good Christmas movies you think I should check out!
