Camping! Probably the most fun summer trip you can take.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve gone camping with my family just about every summer. We usually always camped at the same place, when we weren’t visiting other places. One of my favorite places to go camping (where we practically always went) is Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands.
Camping at Lopez, we were on a campground with specific campsites for you to pull up your car and set up your tents, of course with the luxury of having a nearby restroom facility and outlets.
But this summer, to switch things up a bit, my boyfriend took me camping on the Washington coast to Second Beach. I had never seen anything like it. Of course, we drove through Forks first to visit Twilight town, definitely a must see on the peninsula.
Believe it or not, having lived in Washington my entire life, I had never been to the coast. And I’m so glad I finally got to go.
This camping experience was totally different than what I was used to on Lopez, tbh. We pulled up the car to the beach parking lot and hiked everything in one mile to the beach and set up our camp right on the sand! I was not used to hiking in our camp stuff at all. After carrying a pack on my back along with other camp necessities that all weighed about as much as me and walking my dog, I was dying, especially in the summer heat.
No wifi, no service, no bathrooms, no outlets. Just nature. It was a really cool experience. I loved being able to just enjoy myself, my boyfriend, and nature. Of course, I wanted to Snapchat and Instagram everything to my story but was able to live without.
Walking on the beach with my dog and roasting hot dogs over the fire for dinner was a ton of fun, especially right next to an amazing view. It’s cool to do things the old fashioned way every once in a while, a total break from reality.
After a night of camping and smelling like nothing but complete camp fire smoke, I felt SO gross. I immediately grabbed my dry shampoo, perfume, and deodorant for the way home and spent so much time just trying to make myself somewhat decent. Although I was definitely not used to camping like that, I had the greatest time! I can’t wait to go back again and visit or even check out a new place to camp along the Washington coast.
