One thing I love about the winter time in Washington is taking little day trips throughout the season to explore different parts of the state and to go out and have a fun day (especially where there is snow!). For the past two years, Josh and I have basically started our own little winter/Christmas season tradition of taking a day trip to Leavenworth to get in the holiday spirit and have some fun in the snow!
Leavenworth is about a two to two and a half hour drive from the Seattle area and is the perfect amount of distance to head over and spend a day. Leavenworth is a small German town in the mountains with so many different tourist attractions and activities and really gets festive during the holiday season with Christmas lights everywhere you turn! We usually go in December before Christmas time and it really is one of the most perfect ways to get in the holiday spirit!
Each year we go, we love to walk through the town and stop at nearly every single shop in the main part of town. I love visiting the cute Christmas shops and especially the clothing boutiques. One of my favorite shops to stop at each time is Kris Kringl – it is seriously the most amazing Christmas shop I have ever been in! They have an endless supply of Christmas ornaments and decorations, and a huge Santa, sleigh, and reindeer display hanging from the ceiling which is always super cool to look at too. Leavenworth also has a reindeer farm! I actually haven’t been to the farm (we wanted to go this year but tickets were all sold out, unfortunately!) but I’ve heard and seen such cool things about the reindeer farm and can’t wait to hopefully go next Christmas!
When it starts to get dark out, we love to hang out around the town square when all the lights on the trees turn on, it is the perfect winter wonderland! Every single tree in the town square is lit up in all different kinds of colors and is the perfect photo-op location. After dinner and spending time around the tree lightings, we usually stop at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for caramel dipped apples. They are SO good! My favorite is the caramel and M&M dipped apples.
Thanks for reading and I hope this little travel guide was helpful for your next trip to Leavenworth!
