Time really does fly when you’re having fun. Today is Josh and I’s 4 year anniversary and it’s so crazy to think we’ve already been together for 4 years! It feels like we’ve know each other our whole lives, and the past 4 years have gone so fast! My best friend, my travel buddy, my rock, my whole world. We set up our own little couples photoshoot this year in some farm land area near our apartment to get some nice photos of us with Charlotte for our anniversary (getting a puppy to pose for the camera always has its challenges haha), and had so much fun getting some new photos! I wanted to share our little photo gallery in today’s post if you’re looking into getting couples photos taken and wanted some inspiration, as well as share the story of how we met!

We never really know what to tell people when they ask us how we met, because while we technically met during our college years, we didn’t actually meet at college, it always turns out to be us telling a longer story haha.
In the early summer of 2016, I had just finished my freshman year of college in eastern Washington and was home for the summer in the greater Seattle area in search of a summer job to make some money while I was home for a couple months. After a lot of searching, I ended up getting a part-time job at my local Macy’s store in the women’s clothing department. The week I started working at Macy’s I noticed this very cute guy working in the Sunglass Hut within the Macy’s store, which was right near the department I worked in.

If you really know me, you know I am definitely NOT the type of girl to just go up to a guy I think is cute and start talking. I get so nervous! But something about this just felt different. About the 3rd week I was there, after the first couple of weeks of giving each other looks across the store, I wanted something to happen, I couldn’t let that summer go by with nothing happening between me and this cute guy who kept giving me looks every day at work!
One day on my lunch break, I pretended to be “shopping” for some sunglasses at the Sunglass Hut on the day he was working. Awkward me, I kind of just came by the booth silently and started looking at the glasses without saying anything, he didn’t know I was there since he was unloading a shipment of new sunglasses and was turned around. I made a small sound by putting the sunglasses back on the holder, and he turned around and saw me. He started talking to me, asking if I was looking for anything in particular, etc. A couple days later I ended up actually buying a pair of sunglasses from him (that I’m wearing in these photos), that are still my favorite to this day haha, but that’s besides the point!

Now that we were on talking terms, he’d come by my department and talk every once in a while, and I’d do the same. Then all of a sudden one week I was working every single day, he didn’t come to work for about 8-10 days. We didn’t have each other’s phone numbers yet or social media, so no way of getting in contact, I didn’t even know his last name either to try to find his social media! I thought he quit without telling me and I’d never see him again, it was a horrible feeling!
The worst part about that was I had written out on my number on a piece of paper and put it in my purse to bring to work that day to give to him, and he wasn’t there for what felt like a really long time. I was mainly mad at myself for not getting over my fear and giving him my number sooner!
After about 10 days on his first day back to work, I was not expecting him to be there since it had been 10 days without him being there, it really caught me by surprise and put the biggest smile on my face, and his! I immediately went up to him to start talking since it had been so long and we were both so happy to see each other. Not two minutes into talking to each other, he asked me if I wanted to hang out that weekend and go on a hike. On the inside I was screaming! I was so excited haha. He got out his phone to put my number in, but I still had that little paper in my bag with my number, specifically for him, so I immediately grabbed for it out of my bag and gave it to him, then had to go back to work. You could just see the happiness across both of our faces, it was one of the best moments.

About 2-3 days had gone by, we couldn’t wait til the weekend haha. On that Friday night, we were both working the closing shifts and he asked if I wanted to hang out after work, I could pick whatever we wanted to do.
When I was working at Macy’s, I always packed my gym bag to workout after work since the gym was right across the street. I had gotten off work 30 minutes before him and all I had to change into were gym clothes. To this day I still don’t know why I didn’t just stay in my work clothes, the only thing I can think of was that I had worn it all day for 9 hours and wanted to change haha. But moving on.
I changed into my gym clothes and we drove to downtown Seattle to Kerry Park to look at the city skyline at night. We stayed there for about an hour and then left since we were both hungry. Given that it was now about 11:00pm, almost midnight, pretty much everything was closed except for fast-food restaurants. This was a first date so we weren’t about to go to a fast food restaurant lol. The only thing that came to my mind for nicer inside dining that was open at midnight was IHOP. I was not complaining haha, I love IHOP at any hour of the day and I had the best time! We have been inseparable ever since.

My favorite part about our love story is that we never had the talk about whether we were boyfriend/girlfriend or not. We both just knew, there was no need to talk about it. July 22, 2016 was our first date and the day we both consider our relationship beginning. We braved a successful long distance relationship for 10 months just a month after we started dating when I had to go back to school and never went a day without talking to each other, even when we were a part.
